The TORRIONE DEL MACELLO (The Slaughter Keep), adjacent to the Ripa gate; this is one of the most massive examples of the San Marino fortificationsInteresting fact
The 5 Lire coin from San Marino, also known as the "Torrione del Macello" coin, was designed by the artist Enrico Manfrini and features a unique shape, with a circular center surrounded by a square border. This distinctive shape was intended to evoke the image of a medieval tower, which is also depicted on the coin's reverse side. The coin's design was meant to commemorate the 700th anniversary of the foundation of the Republic of San Marino, which was established in 1388.
