Interesting fact
The Pattern 5 Lepta coin was designed by the French engraver and medalist, Jean-Baptiste Mercier, who was also responsible for designing the coin's obverse. Mercier's design features a portrait of King George I of Greece, who ruled from 1863 until his assassination in 1913. The coin's reverse features an image of the Greek goddess Athena, the patron deity of wisdom, war, and crafts. The Pattern 5 Lepta coin was minted in 1877 as a pattern coin, meaning it was not intended for circulation but rather as a trial or sample coin. It is considered a rare and valuable collector's item among numismatists today.
