Comment
The bird Phoenix at the obverse represents the rebirth of Greece while the word "αωκα" is referring to the year 1821 (the year of the Greek revolution). The difference between this coin and the other two "5 Lepta" coins (km#2 and km#6) is that the Phoenix is different and without circle.Interesting fact
The 5 Lepta 1831 coin was designed by the famous German engraver and medalist, Johann Baptist Merklin. Merklin was known for his work on various coins and medals throughout Europe, and his designs were often praised for their beauty and detail. The 5 Lepta coin features an image of a young Greek woman on the obverse side, surrounded by an olive wreath, which was a symbol of peace and prosperity in ancient Greece. The reverse side of the coin features the denomination and year of issue, surrounded by a laurel wreath. The coin's design was meant to represent the newfound independence and identity of Greece, which had recently gained independence from the Ottoman Empire.
