The Gneisenau was a famous 31,100-ton battlecruiser of the German Kriegsmarine during the Second World War. Commissioned in 1938, she usually sailed with her sister-ship of the same name, the Scharnhorst, also famous for her victories. She was named after Count August von Gneisenau (1760-1831), famous since the siege of Kolberg in 1807 (Source: www.wikipedia.org).Interesting fact
