5 koruna 1939 started to be minted on 21 June 1939. It was the first ever coin of the Slovak Republic, which entered circulation on 26. 7.
1939.
At the invitation of the State Mint Kremnica, the then Minister of Finance Dr. Mikuláš Pružinský, ordered 14 pieces of silver 5-crown coins from the State Mint in Kremnica by letter dated 28 June 1939 for members of the government and one gold one for Prime Minister Jozef Tiso (from 14.3.1939 to 27.10.1939).
In the summer of 1939 the Slovak government had 10 members, including the Prime Minister, who took over the office of Minister of the Interior on 18 April.
Silver coins were also given in memory of the members of the of the Mint's administrative staff.
The Ministry of Finance additionally ordered one more coin for an unnamed member of the government.
Coins of silver were minted with a purity of 987/1000. Archival documents show that 15 silver and 2 gold 5 korunas were minted.
