Comment
This was the only circulating silver coin the Taiwanese government made.Interesting fact
The 5 Jiao 38 (1949) coin from Taiwan is interesting because it was minted during a time of great change and turmoil in Taiwan's history. In 1949, the Chinese Civil War ended with the defeat of the Nationalist Party (KMT) by the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the establishment of the People's Republic of China (PRC) on the mainland. The KMT retreated to Taiwan and continued to claim to be the legitimate government of all of China, issuing coins and currency that were recognized only in Taiwan and a few other countries. This coin, minted in 1949, bears the inscription "Republic of China" and features a portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the founder of modern China, on one side, and the value and year on the other. Despite its historical significance, the coin's value is relatively low, and it is considered a common coin among collectors.
