This coin celebrates the Mykola Sumtsov Kharkiv Historical Museum, a cultural center of Sloboda Ukraine (a region in the northeast of the country, as well as eastern Ukraine), and one of the largest museums in Ukraine. Each year, more than 200,000 people visit the museum, which has for over 100 years been an important research, scientific, methodological and cultural center in Kharkiv oblast. The museum was founded by Mykola Sumtsov, who also was the museum’s first director. Sumtsov was a renowned scholar, ethnographer, and historian, who studied people’s way of life and world views.

Interesting fact

The Kharkiv Historical Museum, which is featured on the reverse side of the coin, is one of the largest museums in Ukraine and houses a vast collection of artifacts and exhibits related to the history and culture of Kharkiv and the surrounding region. The museum was founded in 1920 and has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years. It is considered one of the most important cultural institutions in Ukraine and attracts visitors from all over the world.
