This coin commemorates Kyiv oblast, which is the cradle of Kyiv Rus. Kyiv Oblast mostly lies on the right bank of the Dnipro River in two geographical regions: Polesia and forest steppe. The oblast is rich in the following mineral resources: peat, brown coal, granites, gneisses, as well as deposits of kaolin and clay.
