The coin is dedicated to one of the oldest Ukrainian cities. It was mentioned for the first time in the text of Prince Oleh’s Treaty with the Byzantine Empire (907) as one of three oldest cities of the Ancient Rus. Since the 11th century this city was the center of Pereiaslav Principality. In the late 15th- and during 16th centuries it played an important role in the formation of the Ukrainian Cossacks.
