Comment
Following the French July Revolution in 1830, new cantonal constitutions were introduced. The modifications to the cantonal constitutions made during this period of "Regeneration" remains the basis of the current-day cantonal constitutions. The political crisis of the Regeneration period culminated in the Sonderbund War of November 1847. As a result of the Sonderbund War, Switzerland was transformed into a federal state, with a constitution promulgated on 12 September 1848. This constitution provided for the sovereignty of the cantons, as long as this did not impinge on the Federal Constitution. The creation of a bicameral assembly was inspired by the United States Constitution, the National Council and Council of States corresponding to the House of Representatives and Senate, respectively.Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 5 Francs (Constitution; silver) 1948 coin from Switzerland is that it was minted to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Swiss Federal Constitution, which was adopted in 1848. The coin's design features an image of the Swiss federal coat of arms, which includes a shield with the Swiss cross, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves and topped with a crown. The coin's silver content and intricate design make it a valuable collector's item for numismatists and coin enthusiasts.
