Comment

Issued by the Imperial Japanese-controlled puppet state of the Empire of Manchuria (Manchukuo) in 1944 and 1945. This coin was issued in a red or brown fiber material, owing to a severe shortage of metal towards the end of World War II. This coin was in circulation in Manchukuo until the Soviet invasion of Manchuria and the surrender of Imperial Japan, ending both the war and the self-declared state's existence.

There can be a large variation in the color, weight, and thickness for examples of these coins.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 5 Fen - Puyi (Kangde) 11-12 (1944-1945) coin from Manchukuo is that it was made of a unique material called "fiber" which is a combination of rubber and magnesite. This material was used to produce coins during World War II as a substitute for traditional metals, which were in short supply at the time. The use of fiber in coin production was a rare occurrence in the history of numismatics, making this coin a distinctive and interesting collector's item.
