Comment
Patrimonio Nacional is the denomination received in Spain by the public body, dependent on the Ministry of the Presidency, Relations with the Courts and Equality, dedicated to the care and maintenance of assets historically linked to the Crown of Spain. The Royal Palace of El Pardo is one of the residences of the Spanish royal family. In its origin it was a hunting lodge of the Austrias, to later become the main winter residence of the sovereign under the Bourbons. Its main use today is to host foreign heads of state when they are on an official visit to Spain. It is located in the Real Sitio de El Pardo, belonging to the municipality of Madrid, in the surroundings of Monte de El Pardo. It was built in the sixteenth century from a primitive building of the fifteenth century designed by Luis de Vega. Its current aspect corresponds to the reforms and extensions undertaken in the eighteenth century, at the request of King Carlos III, in which the architect Francesco Sabatini participated.
