UNESCO established 5 May as the World Portuguese Language Day, in recognition of the importance of a language that is currently the most widely spoken in the southern hemisphere, shared by over 265 million people.
To mark this recognition of the dimension of the Portuguese language in the world, Casa da Moeda has minted a commemorative collector coin created by sculptor João Duarte.
