Continuing the "Dinosaurs in Portugal" series, the Republic of Portugal now issues the third and last collector´s coin alluding to our valuable palaeontological heritage. This time, the highlighted species is Miragaia longicollum, a dinosaur which lived in the Upper Jurassic, 150 million years ago. Once again designed by Joana Bruno, an archaeology graduate and scientific illustration specialist.The silver version of this commemorative coin the Miragaia longicollum appears in color, with the additional feature of glowing in the dark.
Interesting fact
The Miragaia longicollum, which is featured on the 5 Euro coin, is a species of land snail that is endemic to Portugal. It is known for its distinctive long neck, which can be up to twice the length of its shell. This unique feature allows the snail to reach high into trees and bushes to feed on leaves and fruits, making it an important part of the local ecosystem.
