Comment
After the four-leafed clover (Marsilea quadrifolia) and the Algarve alcar (Tuberaria major), this is the third coin in the "Threatened Plant Species" series, which aims to promote the knowledge and preservation of species of national flora currently in danger. Like the two that preceded it, the coin dedicated St. John´s horsemint was designed by the national and international award-winning illustrator Catarina Sobral.Interesting fact
The Longleaf spearmint (mentha longifolia) coin is the first circulating commemorative coin from Portugal to feature a species of mint on its design. The coin's design showcases the Longleaf spearmint plant, which is native to Portugal and is known for its distinctive long, pointed leaves and purple flowers. The coin's unique design not only highlights the beauty of the plant but also serves as a symbol of Portugal's commitment to preserving its natural heritage.
