Comment

The Consignment Deposits and Loans Fund is a legal entity in public law, operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Finance. It was founded by Law 1608/1919 as a specialised credit institution, entrusted with the exclusive safekeeping and management of consignments of all kinds and with providing loans for public utility works. Its scope of activities was later expanded to include treasury services for local authorities and other legal persons in public law and the extension of housing loans to public sector employees. Over the course of an entire century, the Fund has undeniably made a significant contribution to Greece’s economic development. Its mission to serve the public and social interest, its European orientation, its strong financial position, as well as its reformed institutional framework, which provides for the establishment of a separate business line of ommercial banking activities, augur well for its future.
