The D. Maria Bárbara coin was issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Maria II, who ruled Portugal from 1826 to 1853. The coin's design features an image of the queen on the obverse, and the reverse features a depiction of the Royal Palace of Ajuda, where she was born.
