Comment

This official 39 mm coin from the Republic of Liberia features Roy Rogers -- "King Of The Cowboys." It is a pure silver coin with a "cameo" proof strike. It is one of only 200 that were struck with a Liberian $5 reverse die (that was originally used for the silver-clad series) in order to get some "samples" struck while they awaited the new $20 reverse die that was intended for this issue in pure silver (KM#613.)
This issue differs from the regular Roy Rogers coin of this denomination (KM#668) in that it is one full troy ounce (31.1 grams) of silver and boasts a reeded security edge*. The normal $5 coin is silver-clad (100 mil silver over standard metal), weighs about 26 grams and has a plain edge.

Interesting fact

The Pattern 5 Dollars (Roy Rogers; Trial strike) 2000 from Liberia made of Silver (.999) weighing 31.1 g is a rare and unique coin, with only a limited number of pieces minted. It features an image of Roy Rogers, known as the "King of the Cowboys," on horseback, and is considered a collector's item among numismatists and fans of Western movies.
