Comment

The 1997 Franklin D. Roosevelt $5 Gold Coin was issued for the 32nd President of the United States. The commemorative coin program was not issued for any particular event or anniversary.

Considering that newly inaugurated President Franklin Delano Roosevelt suspended the minting and paying out of U S gold coins in 1933, it was ironic that he should later have a gold coin commemorating his life.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 1997 Franklin Delano Roosevelt $5 Gold Coin is that it was minted to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Roosevelt's presidency and his leadership during the Great Depression and World War II.
