In 2020, 100 years ago, the Royal Northwest Mounted Police merged with the Dominion Police to form Canada's national police force. Over the years, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has evolved into a modern organization. But even today, the red-coated cavalryman remains one of Canada's most famous characters in the eyes of the rest of the world.Did you know that?

The origins of this well-known show date back to the early days of the North West Mounted Police. Back then, members enjoyed performing tricks and challenging each other in their spare time.
In 1919, legislation was passed to amalgamate the Dominion Police (a small force created in 1868) and the Royal North West Mounted Police (a force created in 1873 to maintain order along the borders). On February 1, 1920, the new amalgamated police organization was christened the "Royal Canadian Mounted Police". It would later become the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
