Our second Great Moments 2021 piece marks the anniversary of an emblem! The maple tree (Acer) occupies an important place in the lives of Canadians: not only does its leaf proudly adorn the national flag, but wherever you live, there's a good chance that this magnificent tree will find its way into your décor. We use maple wood, consume its sweet sap and admire the colors of its foliage through the seasons. In short, we're deeply attached to the maple. And given its place in our country's history, it's not surprising that it has become our national tree, a designation made official 25 years ago, on April 25, 1996, when not one, but all 10 of the country's native maple species were proclaimed arboreal emblems of Canada.
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Canada's arboreal emblem! This coin is an excellent addition to any collection, new or growing. Order your maple-themed Great Moments coin today!

Did you know?
The sugar maple is renowned for its sweet sap: it's the species favored by Canadian maple syrup producers, who together account for 71% of the world's maple syrup production. It takes some 40 liters of sap to obtain a single liter of syrup.
Can you name the 10 Canadian maple species? Here they are: Mountain maple, Douglas maple, Manitoba maple, Sugar maple, Black maple, Manitoba maple, Red maple, Silver maple, Pennsylvania maple and Bigleaf maple.
In every province, you'll find at least one of these species in the forest. Want to identify one of the 10 maple species by the shape of its leaves? Almost all have simple leaves with three to nine tapering lobes. Only the Manitoba maple has compound leaves (i.e. divided into several leaflets). They resemble those of the ash tree.
Packaging
The piece is sold in a specially designed, colorful display box. A removable capsule lets you admire it up close.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the "Our Beloved Maple" silver coin is that it features a unique reverse design that showcases a stylized maple leaf, which is a symbol of Canada and a popular motif in Canadian numismatics. The leaf is depicted in a contemporary style, with clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic that gives the coin a modern and sophisticated look. This design was created by Canadian artist and designer, Jamie Desrochers, who is known for his innovative and visually striking designs that have appeared on several Canadian coins.
