The Royal Australian Mint issued in 2002 a Voyages into History Masterpieces in Silver Proof $5 Dollars, Four Coin Set with reverse designs paying tribute to four of the European vessels that were to sail the waters of "The Great South Land" long before the days of steamMatthew Flinders sailed HMS Investigator around Australia one and a half times in 1801-1803. His charts were so accurate that some were used well into the 20th Century. He completed much of the charting of Terra Australis, recording its flora, fauna and geology, and proving that New Holland and New South Wales were one land mass. Flinders was the first to consistently call this continent Australia.
