The Royal Australian Mint issued in 2009 a Flying through Time Masterpieces in Silver Proof $5 Dollars, Two Coin Set with reverse designs paying tribute to Aviation History of the twentieth century. The coin was also released in a Six Coin Set.

The establishment of the Empire Air Mail service in 1933 prompted the Australian Government to commission a new aircraft. The prototype De Havilland DH86 (E-2 / G-ACPL) flew for the first time on 14th January 1934, powered by four Gypsy Six engines.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design that showcases the De Havilland DH 86, a British-Australian aircraft that was designed and built in Australia in the 1930s. The coin's design highlights the aircraft's distinctive three-engine configuration and its sleek, streamlined body, making it a standout piece in the Masterpieces in Silver series.
