When the Royal Canadian Mint's first Silver Maple Leaf bullion coins were launched in 1988, their beauty and purity made them an instant success. Since then, the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has been minted annually from one troy ounce (31.1 grams) of 99.99% pure silver. Its face value of $5 is the highest on the market for any comparable silver bullion coin.Like the weight, purity and face value, which have remained unchanged, the design on the reverse of the coin has always featured the traditional maple leaf - a symbol of Canada that remains very popular with collectors worldwide. This coin pays tribute to the famous Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin with an interesting modification of the traditional maple leaf reverse image created by Walter Ott for this flagship Royal Canadian Mint product. The coin's obverse features the same effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as appeared on the coin issued in 1988.
Packaging:
- The coin is encapsulated and presented in a padded burgundy double-shell case adorned with the Royal Canadian Mint logo. The case is protected by an elegant black box.
Interesting fact
One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique combination of silver and gold plating. The coin is made of silver with a purity of .9999, but it also has selective gold plating on certain design elements, such as the queen's crown and the anniversary logo. This creates a striking visual effect and adds an extra layer of collectibility to the coin.
