BIRD OF PARADISE

Comment
The Asian Peacock (lat. pavo cristatus) is known for its magnificent appearance. It conceals its relatively short body with its long and glittering feathers however uses them to present itself very proudly. The dazzling and fascinating play of colours of the feathers is brought by a light refraction in the air chambers and not, as often assumed, from colour pigments.About 40 species in Oceania domiciled Birds of Paradise (lat. Paradisaeida) are known. Their appearance as well as their general attitude varies strongly. By using their gorgeous feather splendour the males attempt to impress their female fellow species. Due to the still partly low quantity of animals there is an absolute hunting and feather trade prohibition for all Birds of Paradise.
The “Colour Medium Application” Technique (CMA) is responsible for the amazing visual effect on these new silver coins. Depending on the beholders perspective, a part of the colours change. This causes a play of glint and movement which is perfectly appropriate to both colourful birds.
