Issue date: February 12, 1905

Balboa was a Spaniard, the first European to cross the Isthmus, to reach the Pacific by land and discover the Perlas Archipelago (1513). The seven stars represent the country's seven provinces at that time (there are now ten).

Of the coins dated 1904, 1,210,138 were minted in 1904 and 289,862 in 1905.

When the 1916-dated coins were issued, their bullion value exceeded their face value.

Interesting fact

One interesting fact about the 5 Centésimos coin from Panama is that it was minted with a unique blend of metals, specifically 90% silver and 10% copper, which gives it a distinctive color and durability.
