Silver content: 4.9 g or 0.158 tr ozOn June 6, 1944, 14,000 Canadian soldiers landed on Juno Beach. The battle was fierce, but the Canadians succeeded in establishing a Canadian beachhead before capturing Saint-Aubin, Courseulles and Berniers. A Canadian regiment made a 15-kilometre incursion inland - the only Allied unit to reach its final objective. With victory on D-Day, the end of the war was in sight.
Now, 60 years later, you can salute the courage of Canada's heroes with the 2004 sterling silver five-cent coin. Loaded with historical significance, its design is a replica of the tombac five-cent coin that was issued to replace the traditional nickel during the war. It features Winston Churchill's famous V for Victory with a torch. The coin's edge bears the Morse code message "We Win When We Work Willingly". Also included is an exclusive bronze medallion featuring the same D-Day design, but on the obverse with an effigy from that historic period. This is the portrait of His Majesty King George VI, the monarch who symbolically stood up to Winston Churchill by refusing to leave Buckingham Palace. Courage in the face of adversity
