This fish on the obverse replaced the Queen's portrait after the suspension of Fiji from the Commonwealth of Nations in 2009 (reinstalled 09/2014).

Interesting fact

The 5 cents coin from Fiji, which was minted between 2012 and 2022, features a unique design that showcases the country's rich cultural heritage. On the obverse side of the coin, there is an image of a traditional Fijian warrior, known as a "Kula," who is holding a ceremonial spear and wearing a traditional Fijian headdress. This design was created by the Fijian artist, Jone Tuiipelehaki, and it is meant to symbolize the country's strong cultural identity and its connection to its ancestral roots.
