Interesting fact
The coin features a portrait of King Léopold II, who was the second king of Belgium and ruled from 1865 until his death in 1909. During his reign, Léopold II was known for his expansionist policies, particularly in the Congo Free State, which was a private colony owned by the king himself. The coin's design was created by the artist Jan-Baptist Van Aelst, who was a prominent medallist and engraver in Belgium at the time.
