Comment

Guillaume de Nassau enjoyed great popularity, but his reign was rather short due to his health.
He died in February 1912 at the castle of Colmar-Berg. With him died the line of male descent of the House of Nassau. Guillaume and the Princess Marie-Anne of Braganza had 6 children, all girls. He thus made a change to the family pact concluded in 1783 so that the crown could be transmitted in feminine line. He was succeeded by his eldest daughter, Marie-Adelaïde, 17 years old at the time.

This 5 centimes is the only new coin issued under his reign. The trial strike of the of William has never been issued. Coin struck at the Brussels mint, composed of an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel.
The coin is rather common but difficult to find in a condition above Very Fine.

Interesting fact

The 5 Centimes - Guillaume IV 1908 coin from Luxembourg is interesting because it features a rare design element - a portrait of Grand Duke Guillaume IV facing to the left, which was unusual for coins of that time period.
