GEM 12.7 - Diameter: 21mm, Weight: 4g, round blank and wide scroll, Type I, characterized by the oak wreath reverse. "ESSAI" in exergue, in relief between two rosettes. The workshop letter between the different "corne d'abondance" and "torche" of H.A.Patey.Interesting fact
This coin was designed by French engraver and sculptor, Oscar Roty, who was known for his work on various French coins and medals during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The coin features a unique design that showcases a stylized allegory of the French Republic, with a rooster standing on a pedestal surrounded by foliage and the motto "Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité" (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity) inscribed at the bottom. The coin's design was meant to symbolize the values of the French Republic and was intended to be used as a pattern for future coinage, but it was ultimately never adopted for circulation.
