Comment
Undated, without face value or the word "ESSAI". Study of the meaning of the effigy (head to the left). All engraving studies were carried out in 1896 and 1897. Estimated mintage less than 5 copies. The first studies by Daniel-Dupuis were carried out for the 10 centimes (30mm module), with numerous single-sided examples, in 1896. These studies, finalized in 1897, were then transposed to the 25mm module to produce the 5 centimes.
Interesting fact
This coin was designed by French engraver and medalist, Daniel-Dupuis, and features a left-facing portrait of a young woman, representing the allegory of the Republic. The coin was minted in 1897 as a pattern, meaning it was not intended for circulation but rather as a trial or sample coin. The Pattern 5 Centimes Daniel-Dupuis (Epreuve tête à gauche) ND (1897) is a rare and sought-after collector's item among numismatists, with only a limited number of coins minted, making it a valuable addition to any coin collection.
