 About the Special Serie:
The Prince Regent and future King John, in 1815, during the final period of his mother's reign (Mary I), elevated Brazil from the status of colonial viceroyalty to that of an autonomous kingdom. From then on, in his title of nobility, he began to include the word Brazil (By the Grace of God Prince Regent of Portugal, Brazil and Algarve, from this side and beyond the sea in Africa, Lord of Guinea, and of Conquest, Navigation and Commerce of Ethiopia, Arabia, Persia and India). Later, during the Congress of Vienna held in 1815, as a result of the establishment of the House of Braganza and the capital of the Portuguese Empire in Rio de Janeiro, in the said year 1808, during the Napoleonic Wars, John established the new designation of United Kingdom for their crowns, in a legal regime similar to the current United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland or the extinct Austro-Hungarian Empire.
The portuguese domains at the time were, from then on, officially designated as the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Algarve, and John began to bear the title of Royal Prince of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and Argarves, being prince and later king of the three united crowns, including the King of Brazil.
To commemorate the elevation of Brazil to the rank of United Kingdom alongside Portugal and the Algarve, gold (6400 and 4000 Réis), silver (960 Réis) and copper (XL and XX Réis) coins were minted.
The legends of this coins are:
 JOANNES · D · G · PORT · BRAS · ET · ALG · P · REG · for the 6400 Réis coins (KM#236.2).
 JOANNES · D · G · PORT · BRAS · ET · ALG · PRINCEPS · REGENS · for the 4000 Réis coins (KM#312).
 JOANNES · D · G · PORT · BRAS · ET · ALG · P · REGENS · for the 960 Réis (KM#313), XL [40] Réis (KM#311) and XX [20] Réis (KM#309) coins.
