The Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum (Spanish: Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza; named after its founder, Baron Heinrich Thyssen-Bornemisza), or simply the Thyssen, is an art museum in Madrid, Spain, located near the Prado Museum on one of the city's main boulevards.
Hans Holbein the Younger (between 7 October and 29 November 1543) was a German-Swiss painter and printmaker who worked in a Northern Renaissance style, and is considered one of the greatest portraitists of the 16th century. He also produced religious art, satire, and Reformation propaganda, and he made a significant contribution to the history of book design. He is called "the Younger" to distinguish him from his father Hans Holbein the Elder, an accomplished painter of the Late Gothic school.
Domenico di Tommaso Curradi di Doffo Bigordi (2 June 1448 – 11 January 1494), professionally known as Domenico Ghirlandaio (also spelt as Ghirlandajo), was an Italian Renaissance painter born in Florence. Ghirlandaio was part of the so-called "third generation" of the Florentine Renaissance, along with Verrocchio, the Pollaiolo brothers and Sandro Botticelli.
Interesting fact
The Hans Holbein - Domenico Ghirlandaio coin is a non-circulating coin minted in 2017 by Spain. One interesting fact about this coin is that it features a unique design that combines the artistic styles of two famous artists from different eras: Hans Holbein the Younger and Domenico Ghirlandaio. The obverse side of the coin showcases Holbein's famous portrait of King Henry VIII, while the reverse side features Ghirlandaio's iconic fresco "The Birth of the Virgin Mary." This blending of styles creates a visually striking and historically significant design that makes the coin truly distinctive.
