Pattern strike type of regional coin, of local circulation, minted in Lisbon, to circulate exclusively in the region of Minas Gerais.First described in Julius Meili's Catalog of Brazilian Coins (Das Brasilianische Geldwesen, Die Munzen der Colonie Brasilien, 1897, p. 133). It reappeared in 1905 on the occasion of the auction of the Mr. Cyro Carvalho de Lisboa Collection, offered by J. Schulman in Amsterdam; lot 802, sold for 50 Guilders. The numismatist and scholar Kurt Prober cited it in his 1957 Catalog of Brazilian Copper Coins, p. 19, classifying it as unique and probably being an essay.
