August Friedrich, born 24. August 1657 in Wolfenbüttel, was the eldest son of Duke Anton Ulrich and his wife Juliane von Holstein-Norburg, he died on August 22, 1676 in Speyer after he was seriously wounded in the storming of Philippsburg fortress. During the war against France, the fortress was besieged and conquered by the Imperial Army. With the death of the prince, the plans to reunite the houses of Wolfenbüttel and Celle became obsolete. The daughter of the heathen duke Georg Wilhelm, Sophie Dorothea ("Princess of Ahlden"), who was sworn to the prince, married Georg Ludwig von Hanover in 1682, who later became King George I of England.Interesting fact
