Interesting fact
One interesting fact about the 4 Pence - Charles II (incl. Maundy) 1670-1684 coin is that it was minted during a time when the English monetary system was undergoing significant changes. In 1670, the English government introduced a new coinage system that replaced the traditional silver penny with a new coin that was worth 1/4 of a shilling. This new coin, known as the "groat," was minted in large quantities and helped to stabilize the English economy. The 4 Pence coin, which was equal to 1/2 groat, was also introduced during this time and was widely used in everyday transactions. Despite the changes in the monetary system, the 4 Pence coin remained a popular denomination and was minted until 1684, when Charles II's reign came to an end.
