Interesting fact
The 4 Maravedis coin from Philip II's reign (1597-1598) was the first coin to feature the legend "Dios protector de la Fe" (God protector of the Faith) on its reverse side. This was a significant departure from previous coins, which had featured the legend "Soli Deo Gloria" (Glory to God alone). The change in wording reflects the increasing importance of the Catholic Church during Philip II's reign and the desire to emphasize the divine right of kings.
