Sultan Muhammad Imaaduddeen V (1884-1920), son of Ibrahim Nooraddeen and Bodugaluge Didi of Machchangoalhi Ganduvaru, and younger half-brother of Muhammad Shamsuddeen III, ruled the Maldives for five months. He became Sultan when he was eight years old, following the death of his father, Sultan Ibrahim Nooraddeen. Despite having an older half-brother, Imaaduddeen V was appointed sultan by a decision of the Council of Ministers (Raskan-hingaa Majlis) led by Ibrahim Didi, the late sultan Nooraddeen's brother-in-law. Meanwhile, an aggressive rebellion was brought down to the Ceylon governor in Colombo by Muhammed Didi, the brother of Kakaage Don Goma, one of the late Sultan Nooraddeen's wives illustrating that the Statute of Succession in the Maldive Islands which supported lineal inheritance has been violated and that his great-nephew Muhammed Shamsuddeen (then Kakaage Doshi Mannipulhu) who was 14 and thus the eldest son of the late Sultan should be the legitimate heir to the throne. Imaaduddeen's reign as Sultan of the Maldives was overthrown five months later by Muhammad Shamsuddeen III. His cousin Hassan Nooreddine Maandhoogey Manippulu acted as his regent due to his age. The regent abdicated in his name in favor of his older half brother. During the reign of sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen III, due to his age his cousin Hassan Nooreddine Maandhoogey Manippulu acted as his regent, later abdicated in his name and claimed the throne by himself after naming himself the title Sultan Muhammad Imaaduddeen VI. During the last year of his reign former Sultan Muhammad Imaaduddeen Iskander V was 18, lead a rebellion along with his elder brother and former sultan Muhammad Shamsuddeen III. During the 4 month of exchange of power across the country Muhammad Shamsuddeen III led the state and was named as sultan, meanwhile Muhammad Imaaduddeen Iskander V lead the parliament and government until his elder brother was named the sultan for the second time.

During that period abdicated Sultan Muhammad Imaaduddeen Iskander V issued silver and gold coins in AH 1320 / 1902. Meanwhile Copper coins issued by Sultan Muhammad Imaaduddeen VI were still circulated among the general public.

The 4 Lariat silver proof coin, one of the rarest struck pieces at the Maldives mint, was never distributed among the general public, gold coins were also issued by Sultan Muhammad Imaaduddeen V Iskander in limited quantity. Silver 4 lariat was minted in a similar strike as sultan Imaaduddeen VI with slight difference in borders. Some of the coins were distributed among the royal family of Maldives, meanwhile most of them were looted by British government as since December 16, 1887 the Sultan of the Maldives signed a contract with the British Governor of Ceylon turning the Maldives into a British protectorate hence British were basically in-charge of most Maldivian foreign and internal matters.

Until the death of Sultan Muhammad Imaaduddeen Iskander V he wore a silver signet ring with one of the silver 4 lariat coins that he struck. Later that ring was left among his descendants.

Sultan Muhammad Imaaduddeen iskandhar V was the youngest to rule Maldives at the age of 8 and was able to live through 5 sultanates including himself during his life time.
