Comment

There are no known surviving originals of this coin, likely due to the sudden death of mint master Krauer in 1744. According to a handwritten note by Friedrich Imhoof-Blumer (curator of the Winterthur coin cabinet between 1861-1920), only 50 pieces were struck in 1890 with the original dies by Leodegar Coraggioni.

Interesting fact

The 4 Batzens coin from the City of Lucerne, minted in 1744, is a rare and valuable coin. One interesting fact about this coin is that it was minted using a technique called "klippe restrike," which involves striking the coin multiple times to create a detailed and intricate design. This process was commonly used in the 18th century to create high-quality coins with detailed designs, and it adds to the coin's unique character and value.
