Comment
This coin was produced to facilitate the purchase of gold found by the miners in Brazil. At the time it was established, for practical purposes, that the smallest amount of native gold that could be measured with precision in scales used at the time, would be the amount of 1/32 of an octave gold (0,112g). This amount of gold was equivalent to 37.5 reis and, as at the time there were no low-value coins that allow carry out the bucks, it was decided by the crown minting of this coin and another 75 reis that allowed the direct payment without shillings.Interesting fact
The 37½ Reis (Golden Vintém) coin from Brazil, minted during the reign of João VI (1818-1821), is interesting because it was made of copper, a relatively inexpensive metal, yet it was designed to resemble a gold coin, with a golden color and a crowned portrait of the king on one side. This coin was part of a series of coins introduced during João VI's reign to address a shortage of small denomination coins in circulation, and it was used alongside other coins of different denominations to facilitate trade and commerce. Despite being made of copper, the coin still holds historical value and is sought after by collectors today.
