On April 22, 2001, Colonel Chris Hadfield made history as the first Canadian to step into space, when Canadarm2 was installed on the International Space Station (ISS), 400 km (249 mi) above the Earth. The second-generation robotic arm builds on the success of Canadarm, the first robotic arm designed for space. The Canadarm was so useful for Shuttle astronauts that scientists wanted one for the Station - in fact, Colonel Hadfield used the Canadarm when he installed Canadarm2.
Packaging:
Part encapsulated and presented in a padded brown double-shell package, protected by a presentation box.
From the moment it went into operation, Canadarm2 proved to be an indispensable element in the construction of the Station - and will be for its maintenance for years to come. Virtually every mission will rely on it - an extraordinary technological achievement that you can celebrate with pride as Canada celebrates the 5th anniversary of the first spacewalk by a compatriot.
This magnificent 14-carat gold numismatic proof coin features Colonel Hadfield during his historic spacewalk, and a laser-enhanced drawing of a Canadarm ready to lend a hand. The mintage was limited to 1,000 pieces to represent these two exceptional Canadian space exploits.
Interesting fact

The coin's design features a depiction of Hadfield conducting a spacewalk, with the Earth visible in the background. The coin's gold composition and limited mintage make it a valuable and collectible item for coin enthusiasts and space enthusiasts alike.
