Chief Guamá was a Cuban Taino native, who rebelled against Spanish forces, being active from 1522 to his death on 1532. Based on the Hatuey leadership, his fight strategy was based on surprise attacks and fast withdrawal, to avoid the counterattack of Spaniards, cause of their much more advanced weapons.It's not confirmed, but is possible was murdered by his brother while was sleeping.
On his honor was named a town, placed on Ciénaga de Zapata, about 150 km from Havana, being part of a National Reserve, including a crocodile farm. The town reproduce the building techniques used by taino natives, with huts built over wood posts, mainly to avoid the attack of predators in the houses.
