The ridge that became the crucible of the country's identity - Canadian National Vimy MemorialConsidered one of the most remarkable Canadian achievements of the First World War, the victory at Vimy Ridge is commemorated in a colossal monument designed by Canadian sculptor and architect Walter Seymour Allward. The pylons, representing Canada and France, tower 27 metres (88.5 feet) above the surrounding area. The twenty statues that adorn the monument convey symbolic messages of peace, justice and bravery. The walls surrounding the monument are engraved with the names of Canadian soldiers killed in France, whose official graves remain unknown.
First unveiled in 1936, the memorial underwent a complete facelift before being unveiled again in 2007, to mark the 90th anniversary of the victory at Vimy Ridge.
The motif represents one of the statues on the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. Depicting a sorrowing woman in a pilgrim's habit and hood, this statue represents "Canada - a young country mourning its fallen sons".

The sculpture depicts a grieving woman, representing Canada, mourning the loss of her sons who fought and died during World War I. The coin's design is a poignant tribute to the sacrifices made by Canadian soldiers during the war.
