On April 22, 2001, Colonel Chris Hadfield made history as the first Canadian to step into space, when Canadarm2 was installed on the International Space Station (ISS), 400 km (249 mi) above the Earth.The second-generation robotic arm builds on the success of Canadarm, the first robotic arm designed for space. The Canadarm was so useful for Shuttle astronauts that scientists wanted one for the Station - in fact, Colonel Hadfield used the Canadarm when he installed Canadarm2!
