The Vyborg Fortress was founded by Swedes on the northern coast of the Baltic Sea in the XIIIth century. During the Northern War of 1700 - 1721 it surrendered on the eve of the assault of Russian Army in June of 1710.

Interesting fact

The 3 Roubles (Vyborg) 2003 coin from Russia features a unique design that commemorates the 750th anniversary of the city of Vyborg. The coin's obverse side features a depiction of the Vyborg Castle, while the reverse side shows a panoramic view of the city. The coin's design was created by Russian artist, A. V. Bakhirev.
