Date of issue: 11 MAY 2000According to a legend, the icon of St. Nicholas appeared in 1380 before Dmitriy Donskoy (1350-1389, the Grand Duke of Moscow and Vladimir, the leader of the struggle of Russian troops against the Tartar-Mongolians), 15 kilometers from Moscow, and betokened a successful completion of the battle on the Kulikovo Plane. The Ugreshsky-Saint Nicholas Monastery was erected on the place of the miraculous appearance of the icon.
