The coin commemorates the heroic act of the 6th Company of the 42nd Guards Motor Rifle Regiment during the Battle of Stalingrad in World War II. The company, led by Captain G.A. Yeliseyev, defended a strategic position for 24 hours against repeated attacks by German forces, despite being heavily outnumbered and outgunned. The bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers of the 6th Company are considered one of the most heroic episodes of the Battle of Stalingrad.
