Date of issue: 03 SEP 2007The Academy of Arts – the highest establishment in the field of the plastic arts – was founded under the Decree of the Senate from November 6, 1757. In the XVIIIth – early XIXth centuries, it played remarkable role for education of Russian national artistic personnel, became the centre of the artistic life in Russia. Thanks to activity of I.E. Repin, A.I. Kuinjy, P.P. Chistyakov and other artistic pedagogues it retained the significance of a school of high professional skill. In 1992, it was transformed into the Russian Academy of Arts.
