Date of issue: 03 JUL 2002During the defence of Sevastopol in 1854-1855, Russian ships were scuttled to bar the entry of the hostile fleet to the bay. The troops under the command of Admiral P. S. Nakhimov heroically defended Sevastopol in the course of 349 days.
Interesting fact
The 3 Roubles (P. S. Nakhimov) 2002 coin from Russia features an image of Admiral Pavel Nakhimov, a prominent Russian naval commander who played a key role in the Crimean War. The coin was issued to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Nakhimov's birth.
